Not only am I a tutor, but I have experience training tutors to teach! I believe that students should be engaged in critical thinking skills, interactive methods for learning, and discussions based on content. It is my belief that, as an educator, I must support my students and motivate them to overcome obstacles and reach for new academic heights. I also make sure that I stay in contact with my students' parents and teachers so they can be actively involved in supporting the student while they need help with a difficult subject. I am a lifelong learner myself, and I have worked as an educator for more than eleven years, with nine years as a classroom teacher. I was then promoted to become a curriculum specialist, a.k.a. the person who designs what instructors will teach and how. I also worked with students after school who struggled with reading comprehension and math, and I became involved in after school tutoring programs, eventually becoming a site coordinator for both SES and the 21st Century Community Learning Centers programs. While it is my job to teach the teachers, tutoring helps me stay in contact with students and how they learn best.
